Belgian evacuation from Kabul airport is over, premier says

Belgium carried out its final evacuation from Kabul airport on Wednesday evening, having brought more than 1,400 people out of Afghanistan in the past week, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said. The already “chaotic and dangerous” situation on the ground “seriously deteriorated over the course of the day,” De Croo said at a Thursday morning press conference. Belgium had also received information from the United States and other countries that a suicide bombing attack on the airport area was imminent, he said.
