Enlarged DAX performs poorly on first day’s trading

The newly enlarged DAX German shares index, now with 40 members, slumped at the start of the week’s trading on Monday. In the wake of weak results from the United States and Hong Kong, it fell to its lowest level since the end of July. In early trading, the German benchmark index extended its losses by a further 2.01 per cent to 15,178.21 points. The DAX has already suffered three weeks of losses. The MDAX index of 50 middle-sized stocks also fell sharply in early trading, losing 1.24 per cent to 34,854.69 points.
