Lewandowski’s Poland lose to Slovakia after own goal, sending off

An own goal and a sending off were too much for Poland as the team of World Footballer Robert Lewandowski slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Slovakia in their Euro 2020 opener on Monday. Slovakia led in the 18th minute in St Petersburg from Robert Mak’s shot which went in off the post and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Karol Linetty levelled seconds after the restart but Man of the Match Milan Skriniar volleyed Slovakia’s winner in the 68th minute of the Group E encounter after Grzegorz Krychowiak was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
