New government finally agreed in Lebanon as economic crisis deepens

After a year in political limbo during which all attempts to form a government failed, Lebanon finally has a new Cabinet to try and tackle the country’s worst economic crisis since its civil war ended in 1990. Prime Minister Najib Mikati – a billionaire businessman who was chosen to form a government in July – presented his 24-minister Cabinet to President Michel Aoun on Friday. The new Cabinet includes a senior official from Lebanon’s Central Bank who will serve as finance minister and Lebanon’s former ambassador to Washington, Abdallah Bou Habib, who will head up the Foreign Ministry.
