Survey: Germany’s Social Democrats lead the field a month before poll

Germany’s centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) have pulled ahead of the country’s Christian Democrat-led conservative bloc (CDU/CSU) for the first time in years, according to a poll released on Tuesday, just one month ahead of elections. In the poll, which was carried out by the Forsa Institute on behalf of broadcasters RTL and ntv, the SPD came in at 23 per cent, marginally ahead of the CDU/CSU, which garnered 22 per cent.
