US governor: Hurricane Ida ‘most severe test’ of New Orleans defences

Hurricane Ida, set to batter the east coast of the US on Sunday with winds of up to 215 kilometres per hour, will be the most difficult test yet for the flood protection of New Orleans, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said. The coastal city has made massive investments in flood protection since the devastating Hurricane Katrina hit the city exactly 16 years ago, Edwards told broadcaster CNN on Sunday.
