No common debt to reconstruct Ukraine, says German finance minister

There should be no joint borrowing to finance Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction with grants, said German Finance Minister Christian Lindner during a meeting with other EU finance ministers on Tuesday. The meeting was to discuss the economic fallout of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Last week European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented plans to fund the long-term recovery of Ukraine modelled on the EU’s post pandemic recovery programme.
