Dar es Salaam. Women and entrepreneurship have a special connection. Contrary to popular belief, women in Tanzania make up the majority of owners of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. At least 54 per cent of all micro, small and medium enterprises are owned by women. More could have joined, but cultural bias embedded in the legal regime and institutions have not only made it difficult for more women to join but also for the existing women-owned SMEs to access finance, markets and technical services.
