NEW YORK — The biggest lesson was patience. Raising a child with autism and teaching him life tasks requires extra time and attention from Delroy James. Frustration doesn’t help. “Now I’m trying to teach my son how to tie his shoelaces,” James says. “And that is just a task. Like, ‘Hey, buddy, remember this. Hey buddy, remember that.’ Because with his motor skills and fingers, it’s hard.
