Egyptian fishing union claims damages for stranding of Ever Given

An Egyptian fishing union has claimed compensation for alleged maritime damage caused by the massive container ship Ever Given, which blocked the Suez Canal in March, lawyers said on Saturday. The Panama-flagged container ship was refloated on March 29, six days after it ran aground during a sandstorm and blocked the canal, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. The 400-metre-long vessel has since been anchored at the Great Lakes area, a wider section of the canal, amid a complex legal dispute.
