EU agrees national fishing quotas for 2022 after delay with Britain

EU ministers responsible for fisheries reached an agreement on Tuesday on next year’s catch limits and national quotas for fish stocks in EU and non-EU waters despite delays to a deal with Britain. Joze Podgorsek, minister for agriculture in Slovenia and chair of the fishing talks, said the agreement will allow the European Union to “maintain fish stocks at sustainable levels while also protecting the livelihoods of European fishing fleets.” Slovenia currently holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU and coordinates the bloc’s work in the council.
