German Cabinet approves emergency aid for flooding victims

A week after devastating floods hit western Germany, the German Cabinet approved an emergency aid package worth hundreds of millions of euros. The federal government will match the emergency aid being provided by the federal states affected by the floods by up to 200 million euros (235 million dollars), meaning a total aid package of up to 400 million euros could be available. The money is to be used to repair the worst structural damage to buildings and municipal infrastructure, as well as to help in special emergencies on a case-by-case basis.
