German chancellor candidate opposes Greens’ climate ministry plan

Armin Laschet, the conservative contender to succeed Chancellor Angela Merkel after elections in September, has rejected the Greens’ demand for a climate ministry with veto powers – a key plank of their election platform. “We want to turn Germany into a climate-neutral industrial country.
