German chancellor hopeful sorry for laughter during flood visit

Armin Laschet, a leading candidate to succeed German Chancellor Angela Merkel in September elections, apologized on Sunday for laughing during his visit to flood-hit areas of western Germany. Laschet said he was shaken by many of the exchanges and encounters during his trip to the area and was angry at himself for the moments of laughter that sparked criticism. “I was on the road all day, there were emotional encounters that also really shook me.
