Germany’s flood crisis escalated on Thursday with the army deployed to the worst-hit areas of the country amid mass evacuations, reports of missing persons and a rising death toll. At least 58 people are confirmed dead after being unable to escape the raging flood waters that engulfed parts of western Germany following days of torrential rain. In the city of Cologne alone, police on Thursday confirmed the deaths of 20 people in the floods. Flooding has also devastated parts of the Netherlands and Belgium.
