Greek firefighters make progress against major blaze near Athens

Greek firefighters said they succeeded in containing a major blaze west of Athens on Friday, the second day ground crews and water-bombing aircraft battled the flames. Grigoris Stamoulis, the mayor of Megara, the largest town in the affected region, told the news channel RealFM that more than 8,000 hectares of forest had been destroyed, although another authority put the number at 4,000 hectares.
