Pope Francis praises cooperation with Orthodox Christians in Cyprus

Pope Francis has praised Christian ecumenism in Cyprus and encouraged continued intensive cooperation. At a meeting with the Orthodox Archbishop Chrysostomos II on Friday, the head of the world’s Catholics emphasized that he also hoped for the advice of the Orthodox in his reform of the Church. There is a “need to work even more intensively with you, dear brothers, who can really help us through the experience of your synodality,” Francis said. Unlike in Greece, where Francis is flying on Saturday, the relationship between the few Catholics in Cyprus and the majority of Orthodox is cordial.
