Study: Alcohol linked to 4 per cent of all cancers diagnosed in 2020

About 4 per cent of all cancers detected worldwide for the first time last year could be related to the consumption of alcohol, finds a study published in The Lancet Oncology by French researchers. In absolute numbers, that’s about 741,000 cases that could be linked to alcohol consumption, and in about three quarters of the cases, men were the ones affected, finds the team surrounding Harriet Rumgay from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon.
