Study finds link between vitamin D deficiency and opioid addiction

Vitamin D, which is produced naturally in the human body after exposure to sunlight, could be key in helping people better manage their addiction to opioids, finds an intriguing new study. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed health records to find patients with even “modestly low vitamin D levels” as “50 per cent more likely than others with normal levels to use opioids” while those with “severe” deficiency were 90 per cent more likely.
