Suez Canal’s Ever Given impoundment persists amid legal dispute

An Egyptian court said on Sunday it had no jurisdiction to decide a case related to Egypt’s seizure of the Ever Given cargo ship – the one that blocked the Suez Canal in March, disrupting world trade – a lawyer said. The Panama-flagged container ship was refloated on March 29, six days after it ran aground during a sandstorm and blocked the canal, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. The 400-metre-long vessel has since been anchored at the Great Lakes area, a wider section of the canal.
